Three phases of additions to the existing museum included design and construction of two new wings employing structural steel, without disruption to ongoing facility operations. One wing now houses the original casting of "End of the Trail" sculpture by James Earle Fraser. Civil engineering involved extensive coor-dination with the architect and landscape architect relative to expanded parking, walkways, intense grading and outdoor pool.

All floors feature column-free interiors as the result of a structural steel floor framing system designed by RWC. This framing clear-spans from the exterior structural frame to the building's central core walls which contain the elevator banks, stairs, and restrooms. The architectural skin consists of GRFC glass-fiber reinforced concrete panels.
Originally hailed as the largest casino in existence, Harrah's now competes with two other facilities making the same claim. The 583,000 s.f. building, located in downtown New Orleans at the site of the old Rivergate Convention Center, continues to rank highly among the world's largest buildings. Its footprint is 40,000 s.f. larger than the nearby Louisiana Superdome. The casino site is bordered by four major city boulevards and is
adjacent to the popular Mississippi Riverwalk Mall. To complete the mammoth project, considerable cooperative efforts were needed among several groups, including the owners, developers, bankers, City and State officials, as well as zoning and citizen's groups.
The structure, as engineered by Richard Weingardt Consultants,
Inc., has a nine-story underground parking garage portion, which
supports the 20-story tower. The super-structure framing system
is post-tensioned concrete surrounding a cast-in-place concrete
service core. The foundation is a simgle 80" thick concrete mat.
